The Pitot House and Gardens, New Orleans, Louisiana Landmark Society

Rene' Fransen, Landscape Architect & Jenny Dyer, House and Garden Manager

Built in 1799 during the Spanish Colonial Period, The Pitot House is one of only a few Creole country homes left standing on Bayou St. John in New Orleans and is the only one open to the public. Eleven families occupied the house including that of James Pitot, the first American mayor of New Orleans; Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart used the home for a convent; and preservationists have cherished the building for its architectural beauty and historical significance. The Louisiana Landmarks Society saved the house from demolition in 1964 and restored it to its original state. They continue to this day as stewards of the Pitot House and Gardens.

Join Rene Fransen and Jenny Dyer as they walk you through the history of the home and its gardens at Reflections in the Garden!

Reflections in the Garden is a monthly "lunch and learn" series presented by the Friends of LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens. The lectures are held on the first Monday of the month at noon at the Botanic Gardens. Because of limited seating, registration is required, and tickets are free to Friends Members and $10 for non-members.

Reflections takes place in-person at the Ione Burden Conference Center and online via Microsoft Teams. All members will receive a link to the Reflections live stream even if they register for in-person attendance. Friends members also have access to the Reflections recordings.
